Rationale

This is the rational for my Geo Narrative, just to let you know. I decided for project b that I would present a geo narrative, rather then a data visualisation. This is because I couldn’t find any interesting data and to be honest a geo narrative looked much easier. I then came go the Idea to make a short travel guide, this is because I took a gap year and could use some of my own pictures in the project.

Firstly, I needed to think about how I was going to present the geo narrative in google maps. I decided that a combination of text and pictures for each place was best. I then had to think about what places I wanted to write about. I though it would be best if I included places I have been and places I wanted to go, its probably easier to figure out the places I had not been for the lack of real information. This caused problems because I wanted to give a different opinion to the normal travel guides about the cities, which made it hard because I hadn’t been to the places.

If I were to start the project again I wouldn’t have changed much, except I would have used it as an excuse to visit all the places I wanted to go. This would have made it easier to write in more detail about the cities, and give an insiders look at the cities and not just he superficial overviews. But that is about all that I would want to change. Even though its probably written very badly, I liked the concept of the idea.

Less and less

It seems i have fallen into the trap of basically not writing any blog posts for a couple of weeks, most likely failing this part of assessment for the course. Why am i saying this, well it’s pretty late and i realized i have no good blog posts. Not that this will be good, its probably going to be shit, but it’s an attempt to write something on the internet for this unit. Here we go

Firstly, wait I’m doing it again. Every single second paragraph i have ever written starts with firstly. I don’t know why, but i think i can’t think of any better way to introduce a second paragraph because i am just to lazy to come up with anything better. I know, i hate it but firstly just works well in any situation. I will now explain why in my third paragraph, In relation to how i write an essay.

My usual third paragraph is tired and boring and has a lot of bullshit that was written in the first paragraph. Like i really don’t know why i use “firstly” as the introductory word to the second paragraph. And often explores more of the issue. Like is this a problem with me or is it that everyone who marks my work don’t care and thinks firstly is just fine way to start the second paragraph.

My fourth paragraph will then come up for alternatives i have used in the past listing them as perfectly acceptable alternatives for firstly. Like i once used “the reason for” when i was 15 or “The statement is true because” when i was 16 and a half (yes complete i am full of shit when i say and a half, it was more like two thirds). And some more shit.

However, my fifth paragraph will always say claiming that i was correct (*shocked*) in the end because i got c’s when i was that age compared to the b’s i obtained using the word firstly at the start of the second paragraph. Also i will repeat what i said before, firstly is just fine. This has to be my worst paragraph, not this paragraph one in particular but the fifth, because nothing new is raised. I always wanted to not include a fifth paragraph and have the conclusion straight after the counter argument, just to say useing firstly is not cool and then say “in conclusion using firstly is great”. But it is too late now.

In conclusion this was a completely pointless blog, i am not drunk, i’m just tired, listening to pavement and completely full of crap. seriously i have a fucking smirk on my face whilst writing this, who does that. Who do i think i am. well i don’t know. This is the part when i finish up and contemplate posting this to the internet…. This was for everyone who uses firstly to start the second paragraph of anything, blog, essay, report, poem, song, story.

well it looks like facebook is going to take over the internet

A new article on the huffington post outlines whats Facebook is doing with API’s and social media

Week 11

this week we learnt about what we are going to be doing in project 2, This is data visualization. I think this will be a cool project to do because it doesn’t rely on our knowledge on computers and code as project 1 did. I am not too sure what my data visualization will be yet but hopefully it will be interesting, unlike my last assignment.
Well that’s about it, next week i should have a greater understanding of what my data visualization will be

Web site Idea

For this weeks tutorial we had to come up with an idea for a web site that incorporates the power of multiplicity. The idea my group came up with was “the real never ending story”. The web site basically opperates similar to twitter in that a group of people write a book useing 180 characters at a time, only seeing the post before them. This means anyone can add to a story and collect the ideas of thousands of people into one book rather than just a few.

Thought this was the shiz

This is a post that ranks a persons twitter followers to determine who has the dumbest followers its calledStupid Fightand is pretty cool

Week 9

Back after 1 week holidays. In this time a lot happened. The ipad was released in the us and….that was about all i kept up with over the holidays.

I the lecture this week we learnt about collective intelligence and what happens when many people use a product. We learnt that nobody uses myspace and everyoneuses facebook. We also went over how much people use a social communication tool the more usefull it becomes. For example the first 3 people who had a phone found it more useful than when only 2 had a phone. The same is for facebook, people found it more useful if all their friends were on facebook compared to only a few. That’s about it for now. Need to get back into the rhythm of writing blog posts. Blog week 7

Ok finished project A hurray. On one hand it was cool doing html, building something from scratch. But on the other it was like having a rock in your shoe, seemingly always there and annoying. Lets say i am not that competent at html, and probably wont be in the future. Well here’s looking forward to project B

Blog week 6

This week i the lecture we were told about carving up the world. Basically the process of as Micheal put it dividing up the world or bbq chicken by the joints. We went over the limitations of the real world and the online world and how we make sense of both. And why we need to make structures on the internet to make it more understandable e.g having logos on the left part of the page and by clicking the logo it sends you to the home page. The lecture then went on to tags and how we categorize information and group them such as tags. I thought it was cool because i never thought of these issues before. I ignorantly thought that things were just put into groups and didn’t think about the processes.

In project A news I’ve decided to revert back to a current events page. Basically because i suck hardcore at html and that i discovered an interesting topic of the death of the print media. For this i am writing a blog and gathering more information to be linked to the original site. It also works because it is a topic that i am very interested in. That’s about all for now. Blog out. You can check out my blog about the death of print media at http//:grimey1990.wordpress.com

Blog week 5

There was no lecture this week but I am still required to write a blog for this week. So i’ve decided to write about the government proposed internet filter.

At the moment there are only a handful of countries that censor internet sites, most notably China. Now one of the reasons why just about all other nations don’t filter and censor the internet is because it is unpopular. Many people believe that the internet is a fundamental right with recent survey showing 4 out of 5 people believe this (digitaldaily.allthingsd.com). When governments get involved with censorship of the internet many people believe that something that is their right is being tampered with and that the government will gain more powers by controlling some of the information available on the internet which is what happens in china with information on Tianamon square being censored. However, the Australian government argues that they want to get rid of inappropriate material such as child pornography. And obviously this needs to be done.

Now i agree with the government in relation to if its illegal to distribute the material outside the web it should be censored in the web. But at the moment the government will not tell us what websites they will be censoring and don’t intend to either. Which makes me wonder how will i and the Australian public know what information is censored. And how will i know the government isn’t censoring websites that are, for example, critical of the administration. Even though this is highly unlikely i still think the public should have some control over what we can and can’t view on the internet and to not let a small number of people decide for us. We don’t want any government controlling the internet for political gain. It will be interesting to see what happens and how it effects us. Blog out
